Motivation

Today here in Edinburgh, it has rained and rained, and poured, and rained and poured some more.  And I have found my motivation levels falling as quickly as the rain.  I got up, with the plan that I was going to go outside and do a host of gardening jobs and finish painting the decking.  To be honest, I didn't really want to do either of these things as painting the decking is boring and I had some difficult pruning to do which was going to involve precarious ladder arrangements.  After an initially promising start to the day, while I was having breakfast the weather turned for the worse and has stayed that way.  So painting and balancing on ladders were both out!

I wasn't sure what to do instead, so I consulted my To Do List, which is my constant torturer and nagging, moaning companion.  I have lots of things that I could do, but nothing that I really want to do.  Here is a selection of the exciting selection of jobs:
  • Re-pot house plants
  • Sort through JW's payslip (for the past ten years...)
  • Fix loft hatch
  • Write letter to the Child Benefit Agency
  • Make appointments at the dentist
I won't go on, because it is just too boring.

I basically keep this list of harassment, as I would be highly unlikely to get any of these jobs done otherwise.  Getting them crossed off the To Do List is the only way to get rid of them for good, so I endeavour to get at least two done every day.  Today I haven't done very well.  The weather has made me want to lie on the sofa and read a book.  So, I did that for a while and then got up and did some chores.  Even my morning coffee didn't wake me up.  I really do feel that I could gladly scrunch my horrible To Do List up into a ball and chuck it in the bin! Then I could watch films and read books to my heart's content.  Mind you the house would fall apart and the electricity would probably get cut off...I suppose I better keep that list just for the moment.

Motivation is tricky to find sometimes.  On the upside, I did get round to fixing a pair of secateurs that have been broken for ages, just so that I felt like I had achieved something today!

Today definitely was a Garfield day!
