Following a discussion about plastic bags, over on the lovely Mrs Green's site at My Zero Waste, I have been thinking about the logo on my reusable canvas bags.
Plastic bags are one of my bug-bears. I just can't help muttering to myself when I see people walking by with a plastic bag which clearly only has a sandwich in it. Grump, grump, grump!
I don't really like supermarkets much, so it is strange that I am often a walking advert for them, with my reusable bag, (rather jauntily) swung over my shoulder, as I walk to the shops or in to town. (Why did I buy those bags in the first place? Convenience factor I'm afraid).
Well, as you will have guessed, I'm not happy to advertise for them, so in true Goodbye Magpie fashion, I got out my sewing kit and I did something about it!
Much better!! (Although JW points out it should read One Less Plastic Bag Everytime I use this Bag; but you get the idea!)
Excellent idea and it looks great too! My reusable bags luckily either don't advertise anything or advertise things I'm happy to advertise like the Edinburgh Film Festival, Edinburgh Science Festival, City Farms. Now I'm at the point of trying to avoid reusable bags too, I've got enough of them and energy is used in their production.
ReplyDeleteFab bag choices!! And I know what you mean about too many reusuable bags kicking about. The BBC website had a bit yesterday, talking about a cotton bag needing to be used 131 times in order to balance out the resources used in it's production.
Deletehttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/mobile/magazine-17027990 You probably picked this up already; all very interesting stuff.
Oh I LOVE this bag. I want one. Like you I hate the fact I'm still advertising some crusty shop even with my reusable bags. You could sell these; have you got an Etsy shop?
ReplyDeleteThanks Mrs G! I don't have an online shop, but I do enjoy sewing. You have got me thinking now...:)
DeleteI have never thought of being a walking advert! Your new bag looks great, so much better that promoting the supermarkets, I too am not a fan! My reuseable shopping bags are a pretty floral one, no adverts, and one from a local vegetarian grocer, I do not mind being a walking advert for them!
ReplyDeleteOh, your bags sound lovely! Good choices Vegetarian Girl :O)
DeleteOh I so know how you feel. I don't like doing the same either, but i admire your efforts to cover up the ad. I'm a little lazy to do a complete makeover, but a patch would suffice.
ReplyDeleteHi Shaheen, thanks for stopping by my blog :O) I agree, a patch in a nifty fabric would do the trick nicely!
