Enjoy the view |
I had a wake-up call yesterday, about life, its point and why I am here. And the answer is: ..........well, I'm afraid I am not that good. What I do know is; life is not for wasting.
I visited my 83 year old aunt yesterday. She lives in a care home and has deteriorated rapidly since my last visit. I found her lying in bed, unable to move and unable to talk much, following yet another stroke in her brain. She was very sad and unhappy. With none of the simple pleasures in life left to her. Not even a view to look at, as her window faces on to a bleak brick wall. Now, she just wants to sleep.
I'm sorry, this is depressing and I promised it wouldn't be. You get the picture, I will move on.
Seeing my once fiesty, kind and lively aunt, coming to the end of her days, in such a sad way, made me come face-to-face with the fact, (in full surround sound and high definition colour), that life is really short.
So, bring on the brightly coloured clothes and the days spent gardening. Fling me around the world and back again. Give me a park bench and a flask of hot coffee. Let me write, play, laugh, hug, care and sing, and I will be happy!
I am going to enjoy the view for as long as possible. And when it fades and I can no longer see, I will be able to play the brightly coloured world of my life's story in my mind, and I will be at peace.
So true! There's so much to enjoy we need to make the most of it. Sorry your aunt is so ill
